I just got a list of bios updates from HP support that supposedly help with battery issues - I haven't tried them yet.

More importantly, they responded that the Mini 1000 does NOT support WPA2 - I poked around on-line and am guessing that the problem is the wireless card, which is to a pre-WPA standard. http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php...

I never would have thought to check this type of compatibility on a new netbook and now realize that, blogs like Liliputing and all, I need to research the compatibility of EVERY component before I buy, which stinks. I'll post on the HP Mini blog to see if anyone has upgraded the card and how it went. Otherwise, I may be in the market for yet another new netbook - once I know which new system makes the best hackintosh...

HP is understating the width of the Mini 1000 by 1.5 inches! It is 6.5", not 5" - maybe they hired Sony's copywriters?

Hi Brad:

I'm on my second netbook (HP Mini 1000) and have been using it during a trip to remote parts of India. Here are some quirks that don't come up in reviews that you might want to look at when reviewing other models:

1) when the battery starts to drain, you need to turn it off, plug it in and turn it back on if you want it to work on electricity and not further drain the battery. I'm assuming that this is some sort of hardware compromise. I wonde.r how many other netbooks work this way. It took me a while to figure out how to make it bypass the battery.

2) Even though it comes with XP / SP 3, it won't connect to a wireless network with WPA security. MS swears that SP 3 supports WPA so I wonder what's going on here. This REALLY limits its usability. I wonder if this is an issue with other netbooks.

FYI: I have waited almost 7 weeks for delivery of a Dell Mini 9 with 16Gb SSD. I live in Eastern Canada. The netbook was ordered in early January, and there's no sign that it's shipping soon. If anyone has inside info on this, I'd like to hear it.

What happened to the HP Mini 1000 in the product db? I wanted to send the db link to a friend that I might buy one for - and it is gone! I know there is a lengthy review - but being able to look at ALL XP netbooks in one place provides very different information.

Hi, heres a lil tip about my CTL 2go buying experience, thought it might be useful to know.

I was one of the first people to jump on the CTL 2go with 6 cell battery offer, I bought it before you updated that the current price is 499.99. The page said that it would ship within 1-2 business days. The next day I got an email from a rep named Hannah that they were backed up and couldn't ship for 1-2 weeks. I shot back a short reply asking for refunded shipping if it wasn't going to make it in the time they originally stated (even though I got the regular UPS ground). Today I got an email that they are going to refund that much and apologized for the delay.

Since, in my experience, these small gestures are hard to come by from e-shops, thought it was worth mentioning.

Hey, I was wondering if OSX 10.5 Leopard could be installed on the HP Mini 1000 Mi edition as it could the XP edition. I mean it doesn't make sense to spend an extra $50 on something i'll never use..... 0_o
